How Often Should You Change Your Pillows?

Have you ever thought that your pillow is dirtier than you think? Same as mattress, just imagine the pillow is a sponge that absorbs sweat and oil from your skin and scalp while you sleep on it. You may think that only the pillow cover which gets dirty, but all those dirt seeps to your pillow day by day, causing allergies and skin problem.


How do you know that it is time to change your pillows?

For your reference, pillow must be changed every 1 to 2 years. Cleaning it regularly will only help to extend its lifespan. However, each pillow has different quality and user, it probably causes lesser lifespan. Here are some signs to instantly inform when it’s time to change your head support a.k.a. pillows:

1. Your pillow shape seems uneven or shrinking down

2. There are big chunks of internal material when you press it

3. You see a big patch of stain on the internal lining

4. There is mould stain and smell

5. You often sneeze and cough due to the accumulated dust mites

6. You have face or neck skin problem due to bacteria


What type of pillow has the longest lifespan?

Since most of the pillow type has to be replaced every 1 to 2 years, some of the pillow type has lesser or longer lifespan. Pillow with feather material or memory foam can last up to 3 years. The shortest pillow lifespan in general goes to polyester pillows, they are recommended to be changed as early as 6 months.

Keep changing the pillow may be troublesome for homeowner. Just imagine, if you have 5 members in your family, you – at least – must purchase 5 pillows every year or two. But important things to consider, pillows we use play an important role in supporting our sleeping quality. We spend third of our lifetime on bed, why don’t we invest in great pillow condition?
